The Ten Commandments : George Carlin

2009 March 28

The late comedian George Carlin’s (1937-2008) insightful humor has always been a favorite of mine.  Many of today’s best comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Ben Stiller, Lewis Black etc. were said to have been influenced by Carlin.

I was watching this old video from his HBO special (my guess) again yesterday and realized that I haven’t posted it on my blog. Many of you may have already watched it, but just in case you missed it. Here it is.

[Warning : Some profanities and sexually explicit language used]

Video length : 6:49 mins

and here are the real 10 commandments in case you want a reference

If you enjoyed it. You might enjoy  George Carlin’s take on religion which I posted on my blog a few months back [Link]

    This is possibly one of the funniest yet thought provoking pieces of Mr. Carlin. I think “Religion is Bullshit” is also an excellent piece, rather on second thoughts the best one.

    @Dilip

    Yes, I think the religion one is better than the 10 commandments.

    @Aniket

    Thank the Flying Spagetti Monster, that someone found it new. Before posting this video, I was thinking to myself – ” Carlin is so famous, everyone must have seen this video, so this post may be useless”. I probably overestimated his popularity.

    Mr. Anil Kumar was conducting Christian religious meetings and distributing pamphlets entitled ‘Prayer for Elections’. The pamphlets claimed that it was due to similar prayers in the last elections that God had elected the last government.

    This is howlarious! :D

    Reminded me of Ned Flanders (The Simpsons) 10 commandments.

    “Thou shalt not take the name of diddily-doodily Lord in vain.”

    “Thou shalt not wear any woman’s dresses other than your wife’s.”

    I have always loved atheist humour. Douglas Adams is a case in point. If you have read the Hitchhiker series, you will not have falied to notice the gentle jibes at religion, the argument from intellegent design, the argument from irreducible complexity and other crackpot proofs for God’s existence.

    You will also love Ricky Gervais on the Book of Genesis:

    That isn’t the 10 commandments you have listed. That is a version the Catholics modified to leave out the 3rd commandment – no worshiping graven images – a.k.a. no worshiping statues. They did this so they could keep kissing the toe off that statue in Rome.
