The Monkeys Want the Elephant out of the Jungle

March 1, 2009

Sometimes, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at the antics of the Vanar Sena (Monkey Brigade). This time the monkey brigade, instead of crossing the Palk strait, have found a new agenda to focus their attention on. I understand that some species with tiny, unevolved brains find it difficult to handle ponderous concepts like democracy, women’s liberation, free speech or fundamental rights but I wonder if we can ever teach them any.  Poor creatures. How painfully long is it taking them to evolve ? My heart truly goes out to them.

Times of India reports

The issue:

Hindu Jagran Manch and other Hindu organisations have objected to allotment of “elephant” as an election symbol to any political party and have urged the Election Commission to withdraw it.

 The reason :

Hindus revere elephant as Lord Ganesha and its use in election provides scope to political parties to use it for sloganeering and its akin to degrading the god thereby hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus

The threat :

….it is also against the model code of conduct and should be banned immediately…the saints, dharmacharyas and activists of different Hindu organisations would stage a dharna before the Election Commission and hold a “mahapanchayat” before the Parliament in case their demand is not met soon.

I don’t know about you, but I think the monkeys are running out of bananas to fight over.

What’s next I wonder ? The lotus symbol ?

I am amazed at their line of thinking. While I dislike BSP and Mayawati, I hope they can come up with something to counter such foolishness. Or maybe not. Hopefully people will see throgh such nonsense without being prodded.

Are you sure the Hindu Jagran Manch is not a POE? They sound very like the Landover Baptist church…. Are you sure someone is not having a huge laugh creating that wesite. They are hilarious.

What does POE stand for? Please humor me.

A far as I know Hindu jagran manch is pretty serious about their demands. There’s precedence also. I doubt if satire in the name of religion will be tolerated in any part of India.
