A Few Dabs of Fresh Paint

May 1, 2009

For the last few weeks, I have been finding it increasingly difficult to devote time to this blog due to some pressing deadlines at work. Although, I did sneak in some time to read/comment on a few blogs (including mine), finding time to read up on news/opinions and post stuff on my blog has been getting somewhat tougher. So, instead of spending time writing posts, I decided to use the small amount of time on my hands to make a few changes to my blog.

Some of you may have already noticed that I have changed the theme of my blog. After looking through different blogs and trying them out, I decided to go with this theme (inspired byChirag’s and Indyeah’s blog). I noticed that the default font size on this theme was larger than the one my previous theme – ‘Connections’ (which is a big help) and the post windows were also wider. Another great feature which I liked was that I could add more than one text widgets to my sidebar, which was impossible with my previous theme. Even though this theme is probably less aesthetically pleasing, the white background is what I wanted to have. It’s simple, with hardly any bells and whistles, a better background for other colors and probably less distracting.

I have also added a page for videos to this blog, although frankly, the video page is more of a pseudo-page than a real page that links to my blog hosted on The blog contains videos which I found interesting and wanted to share. I have only uploaded a few videos to that blog but plan to upload many more in the weeks to come depending on the amount of free time I have and how my memory serves me. The reason for choosing blogspot to host the videos was to make better use of that blog and also to arrange my videos under different tags (I am not sure how to display different tags for different pages on wordpress and didn’t want to mix them up with my posts).

For a while, I had been searching for some nifty HTML or PHP code for my blog, in order to help readers find a random post at the click of a mouse.  However, most of the ones I found were either plugins for blogs hosted on (paid service) or code which did not work with my free wordpress blog (I am not a software engineer). Finally I found something which was extremely simple and which I have decided to use extravagantly and shamelessly on every post from now on, as well as on the sidebar :-D. Check this link out if you are interested[Link].

I don’t know is it happens to you guys, but I often come across interesting news articles or  blog posts which I feel like sharing here. But, by the time  I start to write about it, that news has already become stale or I realize that many others have already posted about that incident or opinion on their blogs (yes, I do try to maintain the USP of my blog although I know I am not always successful 🙂 ). Given the meagre amount of time I have on my hand these days (to pursue my hobby that is), I have decided that moving forward I will try to collate the links to these articles and post it on my blog without much commentary. Quite a few seasoned blogger use such posts to share information with their readers and I think it’s not a bad idea to emulate, especially, when there’s so little time to blog and so much information to share and discuss !! So, watch this space for more such posts in the future.

My Apologies for “hurting your tender feelings”. It was probably not the best choice of words but what I meant was that some may not find it aesthetically pleasing although if I hadn’t would I choose it? But then you knew that already right? ;-):-D

I had also toyed with the idea of Vigilance theme, I like it’s neat simplicity, but my blog name didn’t fit in it… . But I liked your earlier theme also.

You could also have a page which is like an index/glossary of your posts. A little like categories. Posts related to one religion in one list (with direct links), posts on gender issues in another list, all political posts, or country wise … I have started this and found there are many posts I had forgotten even existed!

Thanks IHM for the suggestion. Yes, I agree it’s probably better to create a category list. I think I haven’t blogged as much as you so I remember most of my posts but I am sure it’s going to be tough the more I blog. Will try to heed your suggestion. Thanks again.
