Bits and Bytes

May 9, 2009

1. A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about an elderly Hindu gentleman in the UK who filed a lawsuit in the British high court to fight for his right to be cremated in an open air funeral pyre.  This week the High Court delivered it’s verdict. Any guesses how it turned out? [Link]

2. Bill Maher laughs at people praying to get rid of the swine flu and the Texas board of education

3.    Watch out for some seriously flawed logic and distortion of facts by Dinesh D’souza during a debate with Atheist Dan Barker – Can we be good without God ?

4.    Some of you may already know that most of the (crude) oil reserves in the world are being depleted at an alarming pace and oil production has peaked in most countries in the world. In fact, at this rate we may run out of oil in the next 30-50 years, if not earlier. Yet, the population of the world keeps growing, the economies keep expanding and our addiction to oil continues. Even though the US constitutes 5% of the world’s population it consumes ~25% of the world’s supply of oil. Now with  China and India demanding more oil for their burgeoning economies , how do you think the future looks ?

The only thought I had after watching the documentary A Crude Awakening: The Oil Crash is that – unless something radically changes in the next few decades

On no. 1- why doesn’t he have his remains flown to India- it would be easier and he would get the funeral he deserves- besides his remains would end up in the Ganges and wouldn’t that be awesome for his immortal soul. [Seriously, what the heck doe sit matter what happens to his body after he is gone.]
on no. 2- Bill Maher is the best! And on an unrelated but completely gloating kind of a note ( please let me gloat about this), am going for a Bill Maher live show in June!
On no 3. – Dinesh D-‘Souza is a pompous person, please don’t ruin your days hearing him out. He was so full of it, that he kind of made fun of atheists after the Virginia tech massacre- he uses anything to push his religious agenda.
On no. 4- Oil is depletable, they have known it for decades, why then have they been so blind to developing newer viable technologies.

#2: Great. And yes you can gloat about it. 😀 Btw where is this live show being taped.
#3: Yes D’Souza is a moron. I find it funny that whenever he doesn’t have a great answer, he always tries to poke fun at the question or the person who asks the question before anwering it. Btw, he is great at distorting facts. I will grant him that.
#4: When you get some time, you may want to watch the documentary. I have watched other documentaries before on peak oil but this was probably one of the better made ones.

“Btw, he is great at distorting facts.”

Aren’t they all? Remember all those pastors in the South who claim that there’s more evidence for the ressurection of Christ than the life of Alexander the Great?

Yes, you are right. 🙂 That definitely seems to be their forte.

    1) Well, for you my wonderfully long comment for you on that on the post. 🙂

    2) I totally with Bill Maher that the swine flu wasn’t sent by God nor can he solve it. Only science can. BUT no comment on people praying to God to solve the problem. BUT it was funny watching Bill Maher making fun out of these people. 😆 😉

    3) Well I saw the length of the video watched it for 5 mins and got bored. So can’t comment on that besides it being too long and boring.

    4) I agree with the people (don’t know/can’t remember who they were) that the government couldn’t care less about the oil crisis. All they care about is turning a blind eye and making money.

Thanks for your wonderfully long comment 🙂 Please feel free to express your opinion. I am always open to honest and civil discussion even if we disagree. So hope you can speak your mind.

Btw, check out the oil documentary if you are interested. It’s pretty good.
